BGR and GERRI publish position paper on raw material supply.
As part of the joint raw materials conference of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and the German Raw Materials Research Network (GERRI), a ten-point position paper on Germany’s raw materials supply was published on Wednesday. In it, the great importance of raw materials for life and prosperity is emphasized.
In view of the changing geopolitical situation, a rethink is needed with regard to supply security. This includes, for example, strengthening domestic raw material extraction, which covers both mining and the circular economy. Germany and Europe must also be expanded as metallurgy locations, as further processing and recycling are closely linked. Companies should also be motivated to build up stocks and thus be prepared for times of crisis.
In addition to the relevance of international supply chain cooperation, the paper also stresses the importance of raw materials research.
