Raw Materials Partnership Between EU and Ukraine Progresses

In July last year, the European Union (EU) and Ukraine agreed on a strategic partnership for raw materials and batteries. Yesterday, Wednesday, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Ukrainian Geological Survey marked an important step towards the success of the project.

Specifically, it is about digitizing and modernizing geological data in the resource-rich country, which has deposits ranging from lithium to rare earths. This is crucial for the development of mining and the reconstruction of Ukraine, EBRD First Vice President Juergen Rigterink said on the short message service Twitter. The signing that has now taken place is a truly impressive development, considering that the war is still ongoing and Ukraine must first and foremost defend its freedom, said Maroš Šefčovič, vice president of the EU Commission. The politician assured Ukraine of the continued support of the EU and its member states, including with regard to post-war reconstruction.
