“Driving the maritime transition” – this is the motto under which the 30th world’s leading maritime trade fair SMM (Shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology international trade fair) opened today in Hamburg. Until Friday, September 9, everything will revolve around digital transformation, climate change and the maritime energy transition at the exhibition center in the Hanseatic city. The focus is on how the international shipping industry can achieve its goal of climate neutrality by 2050.

Among the innovations on show will be hydrogen technologies, e-fuels, new engines and offshore wind power. According to the organizers, SMM covers the entire value chain of the maritime industry in eleven exhibition halls, from the necessary raw materials and components to the final product. Around 2,000 exhibitors and over 40,000 visitors from more than 100 countries are expected.
