Association highlights importance of raw material supply.
“Strengthening European sovereignty” is the title of a policy paper published today by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). Europe’s strategic dependencies had not only come to light with Russia’s war in Ukraine. In addition to energy raw materials, this is clear in the case of critical metals and minerals. Traditional market mechanisms are becoming less important as individual countries increasingly turn their backs on the rule-based international order. It is therefore necessary to secure raw materials by diversifying supply chains. Security of supply and affordability of energy are also essential. Risk prevention is the order of the day in the current geopolitical crises, comments BDI President Siegfried Russwurm. The almost forty-page paper also underlines the importance of semiconductor production. First of all, supply chain security must be achieved, and then the company’s own development and production of computer chips and similar products must be promoted.
